Oh Arizona. It will be the test to see if cracking down on immigration will work. I don’t think it will, but than that’s me and I’m biased. Haha. But all this anti-immigrant talk is the talk of bigotry, racism, and fear. History shows us that, look at the Irish, Italians, Russians, Poles, Chinese, and the Japanese. I would have thought that the country that consider itself the best in the world would learn from its mistakes but apparently not. Oh, and before the anti-immigrant people come here and say that all their ancestors came in legally, let me just put this out there. “Until 1918, the United States did not require passports; the term “illegal immigrant” had no meaning. New arrivals were required only to prove their identity and find a relative or friend who could vouch for them.” Yeah, that’s right, hell eventually a literacy test was introduced but…it was on the native language of the immigrant. But I know anti-immigrant people won’t listen to me, like Fox News, they repel logic and common sense. For now though, I’m just happy I don’t live in Arizona.
How do I know once again this new wave of immigrants is met by racism and scorn, it is comment like the following that tell me. This comment can be found in the link I posted.
“The spread of tuberculosis by illegal aliens threatens our entire school system whioch is being downplayed by public health. I am in the medical field and can tell you for a fact that illegal aliens are exposing Americans to disease by circumventing legal proceses. Even an exposure to TB requires you to take antibiotics for 6 to 9 mos that can destroy your liver. It IS a big deal that illegals are here stealing and endangering our health. “
I mean, come on! This is ignorance at its best. I think the person took the ‘illegal alien’ term way to seriously. We are all human, we all have hands and no, just because we are a little bit more brown does not mean we carry killer diseases. If an immigrant carried such deadly diseases, I think crossing the border would be the last thing in their mind. From all the immigrants that I know and believe me, I know plenty, no one has ever had TB or even heard of such a thing. And no, as an immigrant myself I can tell you that no, I’m not a thief.
While to “protester” is probably overstating the likelihood of the risk, he is not overstating the risk itself. TB is virulent and deadly, with newer worse strains appearing yearly. It is also endemic in many porer countries. Illegal immigrants, by circumventing the health screening process are putting Americans at risk.
I suppose the question comes down to how many Americans, including our children are you willing to put at risk for the sake of foreigners, and how much risk are you willing to expose them to.
I know TB is a serious disease but to say that all immigrants carry the disease is very wild statement that is just trying to blanket everyone under the same umbrella. If there was such thing as reform where all immigrants would be checked out than we might know if TB is a risk. Alas, that is not going to happen any time soon.
Would you accept theJournal of American Physicians and Surgeons as a valid source of information? If so read this. Before going off on the admitted bias of the verbiage, read the content and reference the citations / endnotes.
I would accept it as a source if it was in fact written by them, not for themby Dr. Cosman. She is not actually a doctor either; she has degrees in law and English, see post above. I’m not going to dispute the fact that immigrants do or do not bring diseases, they do. Not on the scale that is being talked about though. I’m sure that they would love to be screened for said killer diseases if they had a chance, unfortunately, most immigrants cannot come the legal way because of lack of resources. Now, here is something interesting. Many immigrants actually come via tourist visas and they just overstay making that threat of diseases crossing the border even smaller.
I agree, people who have diseases shouldn’t be allowed in if that is what you want, but right now there is no system to do that now because most people just want everyone kicked out. On the note of crime, read about Lou Dobbs getting owned. Link below.
Now, Cosman is a whackjob, it is Lou Dobbs saying that, not me. I also find it hard to believe in someone who is not objective, as this video shows. Now, I’m from Mexico…and yet I haven’t raped anyone, am I ticking time bomb?
And the citations and endnotes, wow, it’s a lot of them and it will take me a long time to go through them so I’m just answering on what she actually wrote.
Crap, the video didn’t work but the Lou Dobbs link has the quote too. I think the only person that has the right to call me a bastard is me. And yes, Wikipedia is not the most credible of sources but for the thing I got, I think it worked.
