Well, there won’t be a way back in. I couldn’t see family, friends, people I know.

A pity party? You make it sound as if I enjoyed being undocumented. Believe me, I don’t. I wish I could be legal or be given a chance to become so I wouldn’t have to put up with crap.

Are you insulting my age now? I’m sorry I can’t be older and wiser but hey, I didn’t choose to be born in 1988.

Is there “no” way back or is there a 10 year ban? You’ve written two different things.

You certainly had a difficult decision to make but you did make a choice. You’re just afraid to take responsibility for the choice that you made because it means that your pity party is over. Of course I shouldn’t expect any more from a 20 year old.

There is no line for me. If I go back, there is no way back. There is a 10 year ban. I didn’t know about such a thing before I was 18, I learned about it a couple of months ago. I haven’t been to my ‘home’ country in 10 years, my life is here, family, girlfriend, friends, everything I know and love is here. My actions? Me choosing to stay here wasn’t really a choice because everything is here.

I would seek forgiveness if I was given the chance. You want me to pay taxes, fine, you want me to learn English, I have, you want me to know the history and culture, I’m an English major at a major university for God’s sake. I’m more like you than most other immigrants and I would like a chance to give back but I can’t. And no, don’t come telling me that I should get in line because there is no line. And you can’t expect someone to leave his family, friends, life behind before he is 18 because most people would choose family. It is not an easy choice and that time is long past now.

As for the Civil Rights, I quote the MLK Jr because I like most of what he says and did. Just because it is not the same issue doesn’t mean I can’t quote the idea or saying.

Forgiveness does not mean that we live and let live just as condemnation of illegal acts does not mean that we lack compassion. Forgiveness requires recognition of the fact that you’ve done something wrong, remorse for your actions, restitution, repentance, and a commitment to cease from doing wrong again. You’ve done nothing to seek forgiveness for your illegal acts.

Oh, and please drop the references to MLK. The notion of illegal immigration as a modern day civil rights issue just doesn’t hold water.

Well, as someone who advocated that everyone should have to demonstrate legal presence post 9/11 (and won in my state) I feel pretty strongly about this. People w/o legal presence here shouldn’t have DL …they are breeder documents to trying to present a legal presence. Furthermore, on the public safety issue, DL tests should only be given in English. To have a CDL, you must be able to speak enough English to understand and respond to an officer, it should be no different for a regular DL as well. That in itself is a public safety issue.

I am all for having ICE co-located with state troopers doing DUI checkpoints….it’s a two-for-one strategy. It is important to tighten the net so that living illegally gets more and more and more difficult — hopefully, without enough rewards so that they will choose to self-deport.

Having a driver’s license is not a right, and it is accepted as an important identity document. I am firmly against illegals having a US license, and more firmly for increased enforcement. It should be a severe penalty to drive unlicensed with a one strike -you’re out – mentality. Zero tolerance.
