“I don’t care if this has been your home since you were four. You deserve to be deported and your parents penalized.
No rewards for those who break the rules and then try and cheat the system by telling sob stories.

GO HOME AND FIX YOUR OWN COUNTRY!
It’s a nation founded on LEGAL, CONTROLLED immigration….not gate crashers.

And we are different…I followed the rules…your parents didn’t. We are not the same AT ALL.”

That is the answer from a nativist to one of the videos I put up. Go home? I mean, the person in the video said that she had been here since she was very little. The US is her home. How can anyone not understand that.

A nation founded on legal, controlled immigration? I have to laugh. It was founded by people who were being prosecuted in their own home. They came here and destroyed the lives of the natives. The following waves of immigration were treated with scorn, the Chinese, the Japanese, the Irish. The list goes on. Controlled. Far from it, and history shows us that. Legal? See, there was no such thing as illegal alien until recently. There were not checkpoints or anything at Ellis Island. Hell, the movie the Godfather II had it right in the way they showed how Vito Corleone emigrated to America.

This person is saying he us different when he is really not. I bet the person in the video knows more about the history of the US than the commenter. And no, unless you yourself were lucky enough to find a way to immigrate here legally, than no, you didn’t follow the rules.

I hate commenters like that. They sound very hateful and such, not understanding anything. Looking at the world is such black and white terms. It’s very sad I think.

  1. The point is she is an adult now. The argument regarding how young she was when she came here is fruitless. Be accountable for your actions, stop blaming your parents for not handling the paperwork.

She’s now an adult, she should have started paperwork to become a citizen.

We all need to be accountable to the same laws. You are insisting that we are all ‘equal’ right ?

So are we not equally accountable to the same laws ?

  2. Immigrants are my heros, documented or undocumented. I admire them for their courage and dignity in the face of oppression (and I am a U.S. citizen, not that that matters a whit.) The nation is NOT founded on legal, controlled immigration… it was founded on the theft of land from Native Americans. They have never been compensated for this theft, so that makes white people like Jill “illegal” (and I include myself, since I am Caucasian). Let’s face it: her arguments are really just a front for bigotry. Undocumented Immigrants come here because of U.S. policies, like NAFTA which threw hundreds of Mexican farmers off the land when U.S. corn market flooded the Mexican market. The U.S. is also supporting campaigns of terror in Mexico and Colombia that targets peasants, human rights workers, and indigenous people, among others. If you care about stemming the flow of immigration, you should care about these issues, Jill. Connecting the dots…. U.S. aggression leads to more immigration. We are a nation of immigrants, and soon enough, you will be depending on young Latino immigrants for your retirement. So I suggest you learn some compassion now! If you can’t do that much, then l will be only too happy to see you take the “legal” route, and haul your ass back to Europe. We really don’t need any more hateful people in this country. From my perspective, you don’t have any more “legal” right to be here than anyone else. I saw a great bumper sticker the other day. It said, “Yes, immigration is a problem… Just ask an Indian!” Just personally, I am ashamed of the treatment that hard-working, undocument immigrants are receiving from bigoted whites. You make some very good arguments, M. I’m so sorry you have to put up with bigots. My advice: ignore them. They have nothing better to do with their time than torment the most vulnerable people. That says a lot about the kind of people they are. I hope you find people who are more worthy your time… And good luck on your education!

    Jill,
Be accountable for your actions? But she didn’t choose to come here in the first place! My next post will address this notion that starting paperwork for getting legalized is easy. I was talking about being equal as Americans, and the person in question is as American as the nativist, unfortunately, she wasn’t born here but she is just like anyone else here because she has been here as a baby.

    Lisa,
Thank you for your words. I hope you can keep on reading and commenting.
