I couldn’t help but laugh when I found about this. I’ll quote the article of what I’m talking about.
Michelle Malkin, born Michelle Maglalang, is a dark skinned Filipino-American who loves the worst that white American civilization has to offer. Malkin is a darling of the right wing, a blogger and author who is eager to advocate invading other nations, and spewing hatred of immigrants in general and of Muslims in particular.
Malkin constantly rails against immigration, complaining about “drive by” and “accidental” citizenship attained by the children of immigrants who she and others label “anchor” and “jackpot”babies.
Malkin never told her loyal readership that her father came to the United States in 1970 on a temporary work visa. She was born in October 1970. Malkin is herself a jackpot baby, given automatic citizenship when her parents were not even permanent residents. The truth may set you free, but it doesn’t get you on Fox news.
She is an ‘anchor’ baby. I cannot believe the level of hypocrisy that this individual has. It is just amazing to see the denial. What makes her birth any FUCKING different from the birth of someone who was here undocumented. Her parents didn’t know if they were going to be able to become citizens, they did so after 19 years. What if her parents had become undocumented? Unfortunately, the link provided above doesn’t work but the following interview does.
LAMB: You said that your parents became citizens in `89. When did they come to the United States?
MALKIN: In 1970.
LAMB: Why did they come here?
MALKIN: To pursue a better life. My dad is a doctor. My mom is a school teacher. And they`ve always treasured freedom. They`ve always wanted to live the American dream. And they left 1970, right before Ferdinand Marcos became dictator. So there was definitely the impetus there. They`re, you know, the — the archetypal people yearning to breathe free.
LAMB: Were they political in the Philippines?
MALKIN: No. No. No, they weren`t.
LAMB: So how did they — what — what kind of a visa did they get to come here?
MALKIN: My dad came on a — he was — like I said, he was a doctor, so he was training here and had an employer sponsor and then — you know, and then, you know, went on their way, like most people do who have green cards, and then eventual American citizenship.
Oh, so her parents could try to escape freedom, but not anyone from south of the border. No, not those poor wretches, that unlike her parents, can’t afford or aren’t capable of trying to come here the right way. Oh no, they are the horde, the cockroaches, they can’t come here.
All I have to say about this is that it is one of the most hypocritical situations I’ve ever seen. I can’t believe it. She was most definitely born before 1989, and well, she is an ‘anchor’ baby for her parents.
The first quote belongs to Alternet and the second belongs to Booknotes. All credit belongs to them and their respective writers.
What makes her birth any different from the birth of someone who was here undocumented?
a) Malkin’s parents were in the US legally when she was born. Her situation is very different than the child of an illegal alien.
b) Her father is a doctor and her mother is a teacher. They are the kind of people that we want in the US.
A. They were here legally, they dropped an ‘anchor’ to make sure they stayed. This makes her a hypocrite.
B. Tell that anyone who employs undocumented immigrants.
What makes them any more worthy of the dream, considering that all the other waves in the past came here for the same thing.
What makes them any more worthy of the dream?
See point B. It all comes down to money.
Oh, and another thing…
After her father completed his studies his employer sponsored his work visa. He then got a green card and eventually became a citizen. You may object to a lot of what Malkin has to say (I know that I do) but that hardly makes her an anchor baby. Her parents went about immigration the right (a/k/a legal) way.
I’ve never seen so many people so full of it, tryin to justifiy “Illegal Alien’s” NOT UNdocumented immigrants, ANCHOR BABIES!!!!!!! Malkin & her parents are the type of people that we want in the USA!!!!! I haven’t seen her flyin the Filipino flag or sayin that we should do things to accommodate her because she is Filipino!!! And, Yes they “Illegal Aliens” are the HORDE & cockroaches if they don’t do it RIGHT!!!! QUIT tryin to JUSTIFY anchor Brats, OK, Stupid???????
@ Anon, there are plenty of educated people who still end up undocumented b/c of the way the immigration system is set up. My mother’s a doctor, and hospitals usually do not sponsor foreign medical graduates, at least not in this day and age. There are students out there with Master’s degrees working as janitors b/c of a decision that was made for them when they were too young to speak for themselves. How are these not the kind of people you want in the US?
People can complain all they want about a shortage of teachers or nurses or other occupations, but there’s a whole workforce of students just jumping at the opportunity for a career in a multitude of industries, some in desperate need, and America is turning its back.
You say her parents came here the right way, but there is no right way for some people, considering the immigration system is heavily biased on family connections. And what about the children in the situation?
Michelle would be exactly like us had her dad’s so-called employment sponsorship fallen through or a technical mistake on a lawyer’s part or a clerical mistake on immigration’s part. How does it make sense to take away rights from someone who had no part in a decision that so heavily influences their lives?
Chuck, you’re banned.
