Old Video Games I want

Posted in Microsoft, Xbox 360, art, entertainment, games, thoughts, trailers, video games, videos, youtube on July 25, 2008 by iamashadow

Well, I’m not sure I’ll be buying all of them. The following are video games already released on the Xbox 360 that I would like to play. Tomorrow, I’ll write video games not yet released.

Call of Duty 4. I’ve seen this in action thanks to my old roommate. Game looks amazing, didn’t play it at all.

Halo 3. I think it is a crime to own an Xbox 360 and NOT own this game.

Dead Rising. This is a cheap game I think, now it is anyway.

Assassin’s Creed. This trailer gives great meaning to the phrase, death from above.

Assassin’s Creed. Yeah, another trailer.

Gears of War. Interesting song to go with the trailer, original. Don’t usually see this in a video game.

Bioshock. I already wrote about this game a long time ago.

Isn’t this truth if you are undocumented…

My Dark Knight review

I have a blog. I can write about whatever I want. I want to write about The Dark Knight.

Awesome. Amazing Stupendous. Great. Good. Best. And I’m running out of synonyms. The only thing I can tell you if you are reading this is the following. Close your laptop or turn of computer. Now, go to your car and turn it on and go to the nearest movie theater. See it. See it again afterward because it is that good. This might be the only movie I might see more than twice.

The acting of the late Heath Ledger is beyond anything I was expecting. It was funny and terrifying at the same time. We can only wonder how much more he could have done if he was still here. The rest of the cast, being Christian Bale, Aaron Eckhart, Michael Caine, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, and Cillian Murphy all bring their A-game to the movie.

After the introduction of Batman and his origin story in the first movie, this movie follows it up with action and lots of it. Christopher Nolan, the director, doesn’t give a back story to the Joker but I think that is good, we don’t really want to know what it is that made him the monster that he is. And Nolan does something in the middle of the movie that I would have never imagined possible, the man has b***s.

So far, this is the best movie of the year. It transcends the superhero/comic book genre into something more. I really can’t describe it, go see it even if you don’t like these type of movies. You won’t regret it. It is amazing.

Why so serious? Does it depress you, how alone you really are…

Not My World

I found this via Citizen Orange (belonging to Signs of the Times), this picture, as Kyledeb said, is the world where the antis would love to live in. This is not how its going to go down though, or I least I hope not. I think the world is moving to a more progressive side, slowly but surely, we will get there and this picture will not come to pass.

Super Mario Galaxy Music

Well, the following are tracks from the video game Super Mario Galaxy. Now, the game came out last November and it has one of the best soundtracks ever made. All of it orchestrated. Apparently, the Japanese have access to the soundtrack itself and that makes me very jealous. Anyways, apart from the music itself which is awesome, there are people who decided to emulate it with a piano to great results. Here are the results, all of the following were made by the following Youtube user named, tzohar. He is pretty awesome. First are the original renditions and then the piano ones.

The Good Egg Galaxy Theme

The Gusty Garden Galaxy Theme

Buoy Base Galaxy Theme

Super Mario Galaxy Theme, slow version.

And this is the music from the final battle. It is very kick ass, love every second of it. Look for more, nothing is bad.

Writing Quotes

These are some quotes I found interesting. Slow Saturday…

‘You don’t write because you want to say something, you write because you’ve got something to say.’

F Scott Fitzgerald

‘Writing is more than anything a compulsion, like some people wash their hands thirty times a day for fear of awful consequences if they do not. It pays a whole lot better than this type of compulsion, but it is no more heroic.’

Julie Burchill

‘Coleridge was a drug addict.  Poe was an alcoholic. Marlowe was stabbed by a man whom he was treacherously trying to stab. Pope took money to keep a woman’s name out of a satire; then wrote a piece so that she could still be recognized anyhow. Chatterton killed himself. Byron was accused of incest. Do you still want to be a writer -and if so, why?

Bennett Cerf, co-founder of Random House

‘Without me the literary industry would not exist: the publishers, the agents, the sub-agents, the sub-sub agents, the accountants, the libel lawyers, the departments of literature, the professors, the theses, the books of criticism, the reviewers, the book pages - all this vast and proliferating edifice is because of this small, patronised, put-down and underpaid person.’

Doris Lessing’s writers’ manifesto, courtesy of Rosemary Friedman in Writers’ Forum

Every novel is an attempt to capture time, to weave something solid out of air.  The author knows it is an impossible task - that is why he keeps on trying.’

David Beaty

Poem

What happens to a dream deferred?

Does it dry up
like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore–
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over–
like a syrupy sweet?

Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.

Or does it explode?

A poem I really like by Langston Hughes. What happens to the dreams of undocumented students…

Trailers: Indiana Jones IV and Blade Runner

Posted in art, entertainment, fiction, movie, random, reviews, trailers, videos, youtube on February 15, 2008 by iamashadow

Yeah, well, yesterday I found the trailer for Indiana Jones IV. Watch, and be in awe. Haha. I’m sorry, but I really like the other films and so I wanted to share that. I can’t wait for May.

Okay, here is a trailer for a film that already came out and I believe that everyone should watch. Blade Runner. Classic of the sci-fi genre. It is above a classic probably. I have the final version which cleaned up a lot of the images and Riddley Scott took time to fix some things in the film. It is called Final Version too, the definitive version. If you can get it on HD than do it. I don’t have an HD TV so there was no sense for me to buy it on Blue-Ray or HD-DVD. This movie is where this line came from, something I believe in, “Quite an experience to live in fear, that’s what it’s like to be a slave.” What makes us human if something that else that is artificial can be too?

If you could only see what I see…and know what I know…

Book: World War Z

Posted in English, art, book, books, entertainment, fiction, literature, personal, random, reading, reviews, thoughts on February 9, 2008 by iamashadow

So, this is the last book I read. I finished last weekend and want to write about it since I liked it and have done video games in the past. So why not a book right? And I apologize for my poor reviewing skills. I can only narrow it down to these simple words: I liked the book and recommend you get it.

World War Z. It is the first and only book that I’ve read that has zombies in it. And I’m telling you, it is a pretty good one. It is a horrifying vision of the future as the entire planet is engulfed in a world war against the zombies. The book doesn’t really explain how the zombies come about, that is said in the prequel to WWZ, The Zombie Survival Guide. The zombies are explained in a very scientific way, as if they were real. WWZ deals with the war against them, humanity losing lots of territory and utter chaos in every part of the globe. This book makes everything be realistic because of the fact that it doesn’t have a straight narrative as most novels do. The book is told from various points of views in the style of a documentary. It makes it more real and therefore more scary.

I liked the way it was done, very original. I’ve known about zombies, mainly because movies and especially video games with the Resident Evil series and I found the book to be quite entertaining. It does not deal with only the American front of the war, but treats it as a global issue. The reader can see the points of view from lots of different places, like England, Russia, Cuba and Antarctica. Not all the chapters are great but most of them are. I highly recommend it if you like an entertaining read.
